The Manifesto on War leaflet has survived in the Premier’s Correspondence with two other anti-war leaflets, The Crime of Conscription and The War Trust, published by the Australian Socialist Party. The leaflets were seized in a Police raid on the Marxian Press in July 1915.
The Crime of Conscription was written by Harry E Holland, a well-known Socialist, and was published by the Australian Socialist Party in 1912. According to the front cover, it was available for buy for threepence.
On 17 March 1915 the Bangalow Patriotic League wrote to Premier Holman to ask him to contribute a patriotic message to the people of Bangalow. In June 1915, the Committee ran a number of fundraising events, including a dance social, a football match and the carnival.
This selection of colour and black and white recruitment posters are all from British Parliamentary Recruiting Committee and date from around August 1914 and 1915. The colour posters are from NRS 12133 and the black and white posters are glass plate negatives from the Government Printing Office (NRS 4481).
The Soldier at home and abroad was a weekly magazine which came out every Friday. It aimed, according to the front cover, to be the champion of the Returned Soldiers and Sailors of Australia.
