Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force
The Australian Naval and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) was a military unit hastily raised to specifically deal with the German colonies in the Pacific. The main task for the AN&MEF was to seize or destroy German wireless stations which formed the backbone of an intelligence network that supported the German East Asia Squadron based at Tsingtao, China.[1]
A Soldier’s Story – Herbert Edwin Williams
Herbert Edwin Williams was born in Sydney to Alice and Edward, one of seven siblings. His father died in 1906. By 1909 Herbert had passed the Civil Service Test and was working as a Survey Draftsman at the Sydney Harbour Trust for 30 shillings a week.

This selection of colour and black and white recruitment posters are all from British Parliamentary Recruiting Committee and date from around August 1914 and 1915. The colour posters are from NRS 12133 and the black and white posters are glass plate negatives from the Government Printing Office (NRS 4481).

The Soldier at home and abroad was a weekly magazine which came out every Friday. It aimed, according to the front cover, to be the champion of the Returned Soldiers and Sailors of Australia.
